The Task:
In small groups, you will pick up where Billy Joel left off in 1989. You will work together to create the next three stanzas to the song. Your lyrics should match the song’s original rhythm and theme. The stanzas will be broken up by year in the following manner:

·* 1990-1994
·* 1995-1999
·* 2000-20082000-2004
* 2005-2009

1. For each stanza, your group must research the assigned time periods and select the social, cultural, political, and economic events that are the most important to the years of study.

2. Once your group has selected the events for your stanza, you must arrange them chronologically and rhythmically.

3. For each event selected in the stanzas, a one paragraph (4-6 sentences) brief description of the event is needed which includes a justification of why the event was selected by the group.

For example: Roy Campanella-was a black baseball catcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1948 to 1957. He led the NL in RBI's in 1953 and held the MVP. He was paralyzed in a car accident in 1958. Campanella was entered in to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969.

4. Each group will be assigned to one of the six computers in the classroom for research purposes. Be sure to keep a running bibliography of your sources.

5. The group should present their final copy of the stanzas on large chart paper and the paragraphs should be typed.
